The Key to Surviving Winter is Accessorizing Right

Welcome back to my Surviving Winter series—something I’ve decided to start just this second. I figured, since I’ve written a Winter Wardrobe Essentials list and a roundup of the Best Balaclavas, why not just turn this into its own little series? This way, other winter-adverse girlies can join me on my journey to romanticizing the cold. So grab a cup of hot chocolate and let’s dive into today’s topic: finding the best winter accessories.

In my winter essentials list, I talked about the importance of finding the right coat. The reality of winter is that the outerwear is the outfit, so invest in a good one. But even the best coats will start to feel boring if you don’t accessorize right. Winter is all about finding the right scarves, gloves, and hats to enhance your outfits. This year, I’m seeing a return of the brooch, too, which can instantly elevate your coat and give it a new twist. I’m also loving the many creative ways people are wearing their scarves—whether that’s tying it around their heads or draping it over their chests like a half poncho. Back in February, I talked about all the non-scarf items people are using to cover their necks, too.

My partner bought me these gorgeous black leather gloves for Christmas—something that’s been on my wishlist for many Christmases past. It’s one extra piece to completing a well-rounded winter wardrobe, allowing me to stay bundled while looking polished. A few extra items remain on my must-haves, and I’ve listed them all out below.

The Best Scarves

It all starts with the right scarf. This year in particular, there’s a strong emphasis on neck coverings, so much so that we’ve diverged from the standard rectangular silhouette and created new shapes and styles to enjoy. The Aritiza triangle scarf, for one, stands out as a chic and current option to pick. On the other hand, Toteme’s poncho-styled scarf feels very modern and elegant. I recently purchased the Aritzia neck warmer, and it’s been a favorite in the recent cold days.

The Best Gloves

I linked the Aritiza leather gloves my partner recently got for me below, but there are plenty of other cute options to consider. Mittens, for one, have grown up and become favorites among adults again. Meanwhile, extra long leather gloves have become trendy this year, too.

The Best Head Coverings

Noting that the below do not include any balaclavas. For a curation of the best balaclavas, click here. Instead, I’m focusing on fuzzy hats, ear muffs, and the recently trending pillbox hats below.
