The 6 Biggest Trends I Spotted At The Spring 2027 Runway Shows

the 2027 spring summer trend report

The spring/summer 2027 runway shows just wrapped up in Paris, and I’ve spent every morning train ride into the Condé Nast office scrolling through the Vogue runway app, reading the show notes, and watching any available footage on social media. I’m looking for any obvious overarching spring 2027 trends we can get excited about. What themes are designers exploring in 2027? Are there any trends we can already incorporate into our looks now?

If 2026 was a test run, 2027 is the real deal. The themes that designers hinted at in their debut collections are now in full bloom. We’re going bolder, brighter, and more expressive than ever, but without losing an ounce of professionalism. The self-assured woman remains a strong figure in society. But instead of a super minimalist suit-and-tie look, she is feeling safe enough to explore more whimsical, sometimes flirty, getups than before.

Across many of the shows, including Loewe, Lanvin, Marni, Altuzarra, Erdem, and Stella McCartney, color was more present than ever. Color has always felt a bit like an add-on, and plenty of the spotlighted hues faded into the outfit as if trying to pass for a neutral. But not in 2027. Color, as well as pattern, is taking center stage, leading the conversation confidently and effortlessly.

There’s also a certain fluidity in the clothes that I haven’t seen since the early 2000s. A waterfall of garments that looks mesmerizingly ethereal. It feels inherently feminine—relaxed, composed, and beautiful in its simplicity. And while I’m more excited about the many new textures, colors, and patterns I mentioned earlier, it’s the nostalgic feel of the fluid form that grounds me, brings me back home.

This season felt overwhelmingly positive, and the shift in mood is electrifying. We’re no longer looking at the same old minimalist outfits—the overly done collections that expect us to get up, go to work, and never have fun. I’m eager to wear layers of sheer, prints I’ve never seen before, purple mixed with green, and flirty skirts styled with high, HIGH heels. For more of the spring 2027 trends, see below.

Fluid Forms

Perhaps it’s an association with ancient Greece, but there’s something very goddess-like about a fluid dress. From Zimmerman to Celine to Balenciaga, there were a surprising number of monotone looks consisting of just one or two pieces, connected in an uninterrupted flow. Loewe sent a dress down the runway that I can only describe as spiritual—a single scroll of fabric wrapped and draped over the model in a swooping motion. Maison Margiela explored a similar silhouette, as did SportMax with some wispy sheer garments floating across the figure. I love that they just barely hint at the female form, but still look incredibly feminine.

Boho Belles

Bohemian fashion is by no means a new trend, but its influence is steadily growing. This season, we saw hints of it across designers you would normally never associate with the carefree aesthetic. Balenciaga offered delicate lace dresses in both black and white. Lanvin had a similar white lace gown on its runway. And while it’s no surprise to see more boho flair at Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney, Chloé, or Zimmerman, it’s interesting to see it extend to designers not typically associated with the aesthetic. Perhaps that’s the clearest sign that a look is moving beyond a single brand’s ethos and evolving into a broader trend.

The Waist Drop

The waist keeps dipping lower and lower. Earlier this year, Chanel showcased lower-than-low waistlines at its fall/winter show, with skirts separating from jackets at the base of a lady’s bum. Matthieu Blazy’s influence across other designers was very evident this season. Kallmeyer sent a gorgeous tasseled jacket, which reached past the model’s backside, over an embellished sheer skirt down the runway. Julie Kegels, this year’s winner of the LVMH prize, designed multiple too-cool-for-school looks with slacks and cut-off jeans with waistlines that were not only super low, but folded over in an undone, just sprinted out of the house kind of way. A similar style was spotted at the SportMax and Brandon Maxwell shows, where models strutted down the runway in low-rise pants that just barely hung on the hips with the help of belts.

Stitches & Knits

Another very exciting trend I’m seeing is knitted ensembles. Most notably at the Aisling Camps show, where almost every look was hand-knitted and featured undone seams and dangling strings. Similar styles were present at the Bottega Veneta show, with more intricate stitching across multiple looks. Even at The Row, several knitted pieces made it down a runway that normally only ever sees extremely pared-back ensembles. At Victoria Beckham, there was a sheer black dress with beads outlining the model’s silhouette. As a designer who prioritizes wearability, she takes a complicated art form and turns it into something practical. Her work is never just a concept or an artistic expression, but rather beauty on the body that blends in with life.

Trenches as Dresses

In the colder months, we often say that the jacket is the outfit. Well that’s never been more evident than in the spring/summer 2027 runway shows. Long coats weren’t just the outfit; they were worn in lieu of dresses, with little to nothing peeking out from underneath. A trench, a striking shoe, and possibly one other accessory make up the entire outfit. Prada made a leather version of the look. Celine paired its taupe coat with a fedora hat and red shoes. From Bottega Veneta to Jil Sander and Hermès, designers have made strong cases for investing in striking outerwear this year.

Knee Skirts with Jackets

Prada didn’t single-handedly make skirts the it-bottoms of 2027. Other designers, including Loewe, Chanel, Altuzarra, and Balenciaga, have made jackets and skirts the power combo for spring. It goes hand in hand with the broader style trends of 2027, where we’re moving towards more feminine silhouettes. I’m taking it as a sign that all I need is a quality bomber or blazer and a personality skirt, and I’m good to go.
