While the official spring equinox has already passed, it always takes a few extra weeks for the warmer weather to arrive in New York. Places like Tokyo and Los Angeles have long welcomed the cherry blossoms and sunny days, but the East Coast tends to lag. Now that we’re well into April, though, we’re catching up with the rest of the world and bringing out our spring wardrobe essentials. As I stand in front of my closet deciphering which items to pack, which to keep out, I think back to the Spring/Summer runway shows from last September and try to recall what some of the key color trends were. If my memory serves me right, the color wheel was well represented at the shows. It provided me with hope that perhaps the long, drab, dark days defined by hyper-minimalism and anti-color ensembles (think gray and black) may be coming to an end.

The spring season will be defined by a lot of soft pastels. Which, I know, may sound about as groundbreaking as florals for spring. But butter yellow and baby pink are picking up momentum again, as people can’t seem to get enough of the mood-boosting hues. I’ve been seeing a lot of mixing and matching of unsuspecting colors, too. Outfits defined by not one, not two, but multiple colors combined. Prada’s Fall/Winter collection, where each model walked four rounds and removed one layer at a time, was a perfect example of this. Grays with greens, blues with creams, paired with red skirts and bright yellow shoes—it shouldn’t work, but oh, it does.

While each designer had their own take on which colors would be trending for spring 2026, there were a couple of recurring key hues that came together to define the season. Red, pink, and butter yellow lead the way as the most represented colors. Next come different variations of blue and, surprise, lime green—the latter is a newcomer to the scene that I welcome with open arms. The following are the colors to keep in mind as you prepare to go out in the warm spring and summer days.

Blue and Cream

Blue is the color to choose for all you cool girls. It even made an appearance at The Row’s Resort 2027 collection, but was more prominent at shows like Prada, Victoria Beckham, and Tom Ford. Don’t forget that denim counts as a shade of blue, too, and we all know the casual fabric has been getting a fashion facelift thanks to unexpected appearances at shows like Dior and Chanel. I’ve been loving the combination of blue, cream, and black, but it pairs surprisingly well with brown tones, too.

Butter Yellow

Butter yellow continues to trend this year. It’s a color that has been getting a lot of love lately as it provides a feeling of warmth and ease. She’s coy yet optimistic, colorful but not loud. Those who tend to steer away from bright hues find it easier to embrace this near-neutral.

Baby Pink

There was so much pink on the runway that even I am getting convinced to try the feminine shade myself. There’s a kind of take-back of power with this color, as we redefine feminine strength and all that’s associated with the color pink. Our cultural obsession with period films and romantic dramas has us feening for a bit of tortured romance ourselves—but in a very 2026 way, where we never forget our own powers.

Red and Black

Red and black, but also red and brown, were so frequent that I struggled to choose just three images to lead this category. Big-name designers like Celine, Loewe, and Prada (as pictured below), but also Hermès, Alaïa, and pretty much every notable brand had some variation of red on their runways. This is going on year three now that the primary color is trending, so if you’ve held back on jumping on the trend, it’s safe to say you can do so now.

Lime Green

While red feels warm and familiar, lime green is the newer, cooler student on campus. It may feel tricky to incorporate it into your closet, but a color reflecting the nature all around us does kind of make sense. Alaïa and Ashlyn styled it with black and other shades of green, but Valentino lets us know that lime green can just as well work with your blue denim and brown bag.

Orange

With how popular red and yellow are, it only makes sense for orange to follow—a color that sits right between the two. It feels fresh and bright for spring; a little louder than yellow but less serious than red. It also pairs surprisingly well with jeans, creams, and other neutrals hanging in your dresser right now.
