Worth The Splurge Ep 4: Can I Live in a Pair of Heels?

Ever since moving into a cute little apartment with my partner, he’s been casually mentioning buying a home in the not-too-distant future—a move I, in all honesty, never really thought about. If it were me all in my lonesome, I would happily rent for the rest of my life. I’ve always moved a little like a lone wolf, despite being with my partner now for 12 years, and selfishly only ever thought about myself. That meant my money went into my pleasures—usually a bag or shoe or flight.
But here I am, looking at my finances in a whole new light. I am no longer just responsible for myself, but for the future I hope to build with my love. That means my reckless spending and all the not-so-little treats I splurge on require a more critical look. Sure, if I continue to live in the here and now, a Cecilie Bahnsen dress or a Lemaire loafer might be something I can swing with my income. And if I’m being quite honest, I don’t necessarily intend on stopping my shopping habits if I deem the purchase worth it. But the definition of “worth” has evolved. On top of my wishlist item needing to be high-quality, beautiful, an extension of myself, timeless, and singular, I now also have to ask whether it’s worth putting money toward it instead of a home.
That’s why this month’s Worth The Splurge episode looks a little different. These are pieces that I would, in all honesty, have no regrets buying. I am looking for pieces that start conversations, complete outfits, and carry me into the next few chapters of life. Here are all the luxury items I believe are worth spending good money on.
I’m generally not someone who leans towards animal prints, but ever since the Chanel slingback pony hair pumps came out, I can’t stop wishing I owned a similar style. I personally find these Paris Texas heels more appealing (both in look and in price point), which is why I’m listing them as worth the splurge.
I’ve been on the hunt for a really cool high-vamp flat. I had bought one from Reformation only to return it—it wasn’t perfect, albeit much cheaper than the Phoebe Philo ones I was originally eyeing. It confirmed that I’d much rather spend more and get the perfect shoe than settle for a budget-friendly option.
Believe it or not, I’m still hunting for the perfect leather jacket. If it’s one thing I truly believe is worth an investment, it’s quality outerwear. This piece serves both function and style and won’t fall out of the trend cycle.
I tried on the dress version of this skirt at the Toteme store the other day, and instantly fell in love with the buttery soft feel of the fabric. I would get endless wear out of a skirt like this!
My newest obsession: the Altuzarra Cubetto bag. Shaped like a cube and crafted with a pebbled leather exterior, the spacious bag would make the perfect travel companion.
Another Toteme pick that I recently tried on at the store: the T-Bar Suede Sandals. At $560, the asking price doesn’t even feel steep considering the quality and timelessness of the shoe.
I really respect and love all that comes out of Róhe. You always get classic silhouettes, but with a twist, which takes them from generic to unique. These Bermuda shorts with an organza lining are a step above what you’d find anywhere else.
I’ve wandered into Kallmeyer an embarrassing number of times, considering I’ve never actually walked out with a shopping bag in hand. Perhaps next time I’ll manage to snag this gorgeous mini skirt.
