Summer started a little early for me. By moving to Hawaii in May, I’ve had nothing but sunshine and beaches every day. Honolulu has, what I believe to be, the best weather year-round. It’s a comfortable 82 degrees practically every day. The day starts with a cool dew and ends with a soothing breeze. I’m never so hot that my clothes are sticking to my body and it’s chill enough at nights for me to wear my favorite sweaters. But go to the beach mid day and you can toast yourself on the pillowy-soft sands and catch a little tan.
It got me looking at my summer wardrobe with fresh eyes. While New York summers trap heat in the humid air — making me opt for the same loose-fitting dress day after day — the Hawaiian breeze allows me to get a little more creative with my outfits. Not to mention, the perfect clear skies, striking nature, and tropical flowers make me gravitate towards fun prints and pops of color. I kept all of this in mind as I pulled together this year’s summer essentials list. Needless to say, my love for the Olson-twins style is still there (somewhere), finding some cute quiet luxury pieces for the beach, too. The rest, however, embraces a more lively feel for the summer.
