The Necklace Is The Outfit: Fall’s Rising Accessory
PC: Vogue, Michael Kors
A fashion month unlike any other, this season of shows had every attendee’s eye sparkling and back straightened. With the great reshuffle of creative directors finally in place, more than 15 new appointees entered this season with their debut shows. And while I certainly invite you to keep an eye on how the new creative juices mix with old fashion houses, I’m going to sit this one out for now and let everything marinate before I make any commentary (except to say Blazy for Chanel did NOT disappoint!!!). In the meantime, I’d like to highlight one loud and proud trend I spotted in the accessories department, and that’s unique, statement-making necklaces.
Over the years, we’ve seen some exciting accessory trends, like the rise of silver and the return of Elsa Peretti-esque cuff bracelets. It makes sense, seeing that the fashion department emphasized sleek, high-quality minimalist styles, and the accessories needed to match. But as we take a turn towards a more free-spirited aesthetic (like equestrian style, trad wives, and garden girls), the accompanying accessories are also taking on a more whimsical form.
PC: Vogue Runway: Coach, Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch
Michael Kors and Coach had models walk down the runway with leather wallets dangling from their necks, while Tory Burch and Ralph Lauren showcased seashell necklaces as must-have pieces. Brandon Maxwell took notes from horse-girl fashion and designed unique bolo ties.
I’m someone who seeks comfort in my grandmother’s old gold chains. If I want to get creative with accessories, it’s through earrings and not necklaces. This season’s runway shows have convinced me to get a little daring with my looks, though. Yes, I do want a beaded long chain or a seashell dangling around my chest. Why not keep my spare change in the little pouch attached around my neck? I, too, am shedding the stuffy office outfits and meticulously polished suits for a relaxed shirt and low-hanging pants.
Of course, this trend didn’t come out of the blue. We’re already very familiar with brands like Heaven Mayhem and its long pendant necklaces. And for this reason, you can already get your hands on some similar styles without having to wait until Spring of next year. I curated my favorite seashell, pendant, and leather necklaces below for you to shop now.
