It is with great pleasure that I present to you today’s article: The Best of Resortwear. Or, should I call it: “Dressing for a Mediterranean Summer”? Because now that we’re at the start of May, we can finally begin thinking about summer vacation—trips to the beach, a weekend in the Hamptons, and gelato by the Trevi fountain are ensured.

With summer being my favorite time of the year, I always make sure to plan ahead and not waste a second of the all-too-short season. My strategy? Get the most of my summer days on the East Coast while it’s still beautiful here, and then book an end-of-season summer trip to a Mediterranean destination in September. That way, I can get an extra two weeks of summer before I inevitably light the candles and welcome fall.

Last year, my friend and I spent 10 days in Mallorca (the quintessential Mediterranean island). And if it’s one thing I could have done differently, it’s to plan my summer vacation outfits more in advance.

I was extremely busy last summer with work (a blessing) and didn’t manage to plan my coastal summer outfits in time. But all mistakes are turned into opportunities if you learn from them, so here I am—this time planning my beachside looks without even having a flight booked to anywhere special. One can never be too prepared.

I write this right after Chanel showed its Cruise 2026/2027 Collection (see my live reaction here) and am therefore filled with inspiration. I hope the following looks get you excited for a summer by the beach, book in hand, phone on do not disturb. Here’s everything to pack for a summer on the Mediterranean coastline.

Best Vacation Swimsuits

I picked out a few whimsical bikinis and bodysuits perfect for a coastal setting. Instead of the monotone swimsuits, opt for more playful prints like polka dots and seashells.

Best Vacation Dresses

A trip to Cote D’Azur is nothing without the right summer dress. Fringe-detailed dresses are very popular right now, as are lace-trimmed options and simple minis.

Best Vacation Bottoms

Best Vacation Tops

A few striking and breezy tops that are easy to style are necessary, too. I picked out options from my favorite brands like Dôen, Helsa, and SIR.

Best Beach Cover-Ups

It should go without saying, but beach cover-ups are vital for a Mediterranean summer. You can simply tie them over your swimsuit and hit the town and beach in one go.

The Best Vacation Shoes

Along with crochet hats, I’ve been loving crochet slippers for a beachside vacation. On long sightseeing days, the Miu Miu sandals or Cecilie Bahnsen sneakers will help you log in your steps more comfortably.

The Best Beach Bags

You need a beach bag to complete your summer outfit. I prefer something large enough to carry a bottle of water and perhaps a small towl in case you spontaneously find a body of water.

Best Vacation Accessories

The accessories are what makes the outfit. Especially in the summer, when you’re wearing minimal clothes, the right necklace or hat can instantly transform your look.
