Summers Are Nothing Without a Little Lace

Lace details are everywhere this summer—on your skirt, on your dress, and on that little breezy top, too. It’s a quintessential summer fabric, after all, but this year we’re seeing more of the intricate stitching floating around than usual. What was once reserved for intimates and lingerie has made its way onto the outer layers, giving us a very alluring and elegant ensemble to show off. Brands like Chloé, Fendi, and Saint Laurent played a large role in bringing lace back onto the scene. Drifting us into an idyllic world filled with romance and feminine strength, the pieces they brought forward on the runway clearly indicate a return of the dainty fabric. Despite being a very breezy material (it is see-through, after all), these brands are imagining them for a cooler setting as well. Aside from Chloé, most lace pieces were on the fall/winter 2025 runways, setting the scene for what is to come once autumn arrives.
I find that lace is merely a continuation of the floral embroidery trend I covered earlier in the year. Your attention immediately gets drawn to the delicate details of lace—it’s so stunning, so enchanting. There’s just something very soft yet strong, feminine and powerful to an item that took a human hand to stitch.
I’ve seen lace gracing the hem of a silk skirt, on the neckline of a blouse, and wrapped around a maxi dress. It pairs well with a cashmere sweater, or in the case with Fendi, poking out from underneath a fur jacket. But for everyone that’s still very much in the summer swing of things, you can embrace lace without needing to put too much thought behind it. Despite the incredible amount of detail that goes into creating lace, the texture gears more towards the minimalist side of fashion. It’s the type of fabric that can be enjoyed even if you’re not part of the Bohemian or maximalist trends. Just take a look at the below lace pieces—they’re subtle yet impactful, allowing you to add that “little something” to your look without going crazy with patterns or colors.
For something simple and easy to style, opt for this J.Crew slip skirt. It comes in navy, ivory, and black, and adds that touch of sophistication to an otherwise mundane outfit.
This Stella McCartney dress embodies some of the most popular trends from this summer. It has a drapey silhouette and some lace detailing, and would look wonderful with some silver jewelry.
This lacy number acts as a beautiful cover up over a camisole, slip dress, or bralette.
