How to Dress Boho-Chic This Summer

PC: Chloé

It took me some time to warm up to boho fashion. I wasn’t a big fan the first time it came around in my lifetime (referring to the 2000s, not the 70s). And in its current return, I shrugged my shoulders when Chemena Kamali’s showcased her Fall 2024 debut collection as Chloé’s new Creative Director (I know, me and no one else). As someone who gravitates more toward minimalist fashion and smooth clean lines, the frilly look of boho fashion simply didn’t speak to me. However, with summer rolling around, I too am starting to vibe with this free-spirited aesthetic, searching for the perfect mesh pieces, ruffled skirts, and sheer tops.

It’s not just Chloé, though, we saw the girlies reviving Isabel Marant and embracing the edgy feminine fashion that the label is so well known for. Don’t worry—there are still plenty of non-designer brands that deliver great bohemian fashion at more accessible prices. Remember when Free People and Anthropologie were in their prime? They still carry just as much of that original bohemian charm as they did in the early 2000s.

We reference the “Chloé Girl,” though, as she sets the tone for optimal boho-chic style. She’s care-free with a very natural, creative aesthetic. Instead of form-fitting tops and sharp looks, she saunters around in flowy skirts and loose ensembles. I find it easiest to emulate the boho-chic style in the summer, because coats and jackets kind of ruin the whole free-spirited look. You need to be able to show off the mesh floral embroidery and three-tiered blouses, and that’s best done in warmer weather. So I’ve collected the best boho-chic pieces, below, for you to shop and have a little fun in the sun.
