Is Gap Cool Again? The Best Pieces From The Affordable Retailer

PC: @Gap

I love a good brand makeover—once cool kid turned loner boy gets much needed update again. We’ve seen a number of these brand overhauls over the past few years—Abercrombie & Fitch, J.Crew, and Coach among some of the most notable ones—and recently one newcomers has landed in my peripheral vision: Gap. Since Zac Posen’s appointment as Creative Director back in 2024, the brand has taken on a fresh approach to its designs, one that aligns with the current trends and customer base much more.

It’s not a completely new look; the DNA of Gap remains unchanged. You’ll find affordable styles in surprisingly decent quality in any of its 387 locations across the states. But instead of outdated designs or overtly childish looks, you now find tops and bottoms suitable for office days or cheeky brunch dates. I myself have dropped a couple of items into my cart just by writing this article (some of which I’ve included below). The styles remind me of a mix between J.Crew, Good American, and Madewell. In other words, they’re simple, elevated, everyday pieces you don’t have to empty your bank account for.

Gap even did a collaboration of LA-based, celebrity-loved brand Dôen, which gives a little insight into the direction this OG brand is going. I was delightfully surprised when I found the most perfect sun hat—in phenomenal quality, might I add—whilst shopping in Hawaii at Gap. With prices so appealing and designs so alluring, you can bet I’ll continue to stock my wardrobe with more Gap pieces.
