Your Wardrobe is Missing a White Long-Sleeved T-Shirt

I’ve written countless stories summarizing the best white T-shirts for various magazines (including this one). And while yes, a good ol’ short-sleeved T will always be needed, this summer, the white T we’re all gravitating towards is long-sleeved. I’ve been looking for the perfect oversized white long-sleeved T-shirt for a whole month. Every time I try to piece together a relaxed yet chic outfit, I realize I’m missing this top to complete the look.
It’s not just me. The oversized white T has been making its rounds in the fashion sphere, becoming the unsuspecting it-shirt of the season. In some ways, it’s the summer version of a relaxed crewneck—the silhouette that screams I didn’t try too hard, but I still look cool.
I like my outfits to be balanced. Think: a delicate lace-trimmed knee-skirt paired with a casual top, or a pair of sneakers with a one-of-a-kind corset top. I only ever need one wow-factor in my ensemble; otherwise I risk having a top and bottom that clash or compete for attention. So for all the cute bottoms I’ve collected over the years, I need this long-sleeved white T.
I did a fair bit of research before buying my long-sleeve top. I originally considered getting this option from Dissh. I love the exaggerated sleeves and dropped shoulders. The semi-sheer cotton looks like it would be perfect for those unforgiving NYC summer days. But I prefer it if I can try on pieces before I buy them, so I stepped into Uniqlo the other day to try on this top instead, and it was *chef’s kiss*.
I got the men’s L size for an oversized fit. At $29, this top truly can’t be beat.
I’ve also been thinking a lot about airport outfits lately. There’s an ongoing debate about how dressed up, or down, you should look while on a transatlantic flight. I’m a huge advocate for being as comfortable as possible, but I also don’t want to treat the airplane like my own personal alcove. The long-sleeved white T makes for a perfect compromise at the airport. She’s comfortable yet chic, and can instantly be elevated with a pair of leggings and a cardigan thrown over the shoulders.
